Facing Meningitis |
|
Texas Children’s Hospital premiers this powerful video. It conveys the importance of meningitis immunization for college students. Because adolescents ages 16 to 21 years have the highest rates of meningococcal meningitis, the video tells the story of two college students: Jamie Schanbaum, a University of Texas student who had both of her legs amputated because of meningitis in 2008, and Nicolis Williams, a Texas A&M University student who died in early 2011 from the disease. |

The Immunization Action Coalition (IAC), a non-profit organization, works to increase immunization rates and prevent disease by creating and distributing educational materials for health professionals and the public that enhance delivery of safe and effective immunization services. IAC also facilitates communication about the safety, efficacy, and use of vaccines within the broad immunization community of patients, parents, healthcare organizations, and government health agencies. |
